Subregional symposium on dispute resolution in the Caribbean
Making labour justice accessible to all
Objectives:
The Symposium aims to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with the prevention and resolution of labour disputes.
- The main objective of the Symposium is to promote dialogue and exchange of experiences, insights and good practices between heads and senior officials of dispute resolution institutions. The exchange of experiences and information among Caribbean countries fosters interactive learning, promotes knowledge-sharing on good practices and challenges, and enhances greater collaboration on how to achieve inclusive access to labour justice in the region.
- For the most part, judicial institutions interact with various non-judicial institutions or mechanisms that provide alternative dispute resolution services with the aim of reducing the incidence of cases submitted to judicial proceedings. Therefore, it is essential to highlight the role of conciliation, mediation and arbitration mechanisms and the importance of strengthening these.
- Establish a network of dispute resolution institutions for the Caribbean that could connect to discuss topics of common concern and support each other in the pursuit of making labour justice accessible to all.
Participants:
Heads of dispute resolution institutions and/or senior officials from labour ministries/departments 13 ILO member States of the Caribbean subregion.
